Following the 2nd Edition of this year’s Opera vs Pop Under the Stars by the Gozo Youth Orchestra in August, The Gozo Youth Wind Band in conjunction with The Helping Hands Group and Culture Office (Ministry for Gozo) is proud to present an open-air concert named What a Musical Evening! with the participation of Gozitan established and upcoming singers – Jacqueline Vella, Marisa Galea, Mario Portelli, Fabian Galea and Rob Ricards. The concert will include arrangements from West End and Broadway musicals.

As the case of The Youth Orchestra, The Gozo Youth Wind Band consists mainly of 50 Gozitan Youths who after having pursued their musical studies both in Gozo and Malta on an individual basis, meet regularly in group to prepare an exciting and varied repertoire to be performed later on in concerts throughout the year. In fact this is the 6th year since the inception of these two ensembles, namely, The Gozo Youth Orchestra and the Gozo Youth Wind Band.

On the other part, The Helping Hands Group is in preparation to stage a LIVE version of the musical PAWLU 2000 early next year. One success after another has proudly led The Helping Hands Group to celebrate its 12th anniversary of annual musicals. The Helping Hands Group – a non-profit organisation from Gozo have excelled year after year with a number of musicals namely Jesus Christ Superstar (1997), Les Miserables (Highlights – 1998), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1999), The Best of Musicals (2001), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (2003), The Scarlet Pimpernel (Malta Premier 2004), A Night with the Musicals (2005), LesMisSaigonGuerre (2006) staged both in Gozo and later in Malta (July 2006) at the Malta Hilton and Jesus Christ Superstar (2007). The Helping Hands Group is the organiser of annual events: Christmas with the Musicals and The Gozo Christmas Show while it caters for young talented actors through its Helping Hands Theatre Experience sessions.

What a Musical Evening! will be held Saturday the 26th of September, 2009 at 8.00 p.m. at the Gozo Ministry’s Courtyard, Victoria, Gozo and will be hosted by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono. The Gozo Youth Wind Band will be under the direction of Founder and Music Director Mro Joseph Grech and will include a selection of Medleys from The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Miserables, Aspects of Love, Starlight Express and Cats. Patrons are requested to be seated 15 minutes before and invited to an after-concert treat.
