Book Club Gozo is a monthly book discussion group that was set up on the island six years ago.

The group continues to prove a real success story with readers, who informally meet over a coffee to discuss the book of the month and share their opinions and thoughts.

The group said that the of the main aims is to introduce club members to new authors or titles and provide an opportunity to discover and enjoy different reading experiences.

This free monthly reading group meets from 10.30am – 11.30am on the last Wednesday of each month and new members are always welcome.

If anyone is unable to attend the meetings in person, then there is the opportunity to join in the discussion through Book Club Gozo’s Facebook page, where they will also find lots of book-related information, author events, and further reading ideas.

Book Club Gozo have just announced the twelve titles to be discussed this year, beginning with ‘The Book of Dave’ by popular author Will Self at their first meeting, which will be held on Wednesday, the 31st of January.

Karen, a regular member of the book club said, “Gozo is a surprising place to begin with, and the book club is no exception. The books chosen are from every genre and the members have lived in all four corners of the world, which makes for lively discussion – first, you’ll learn something from the book, then you’ll learn something more from the talk.”

She added that, “above all, this little group, which meets at a café over coffee and cake, is always welcoming. It’s an excellent way to spend a few hours on the last Wednesday morning of every month.”

Jill, another member of Book Club Gozo commented that “the book club provides opportunities to meet up with other people who love books and to share our reactions to the books we read. Our enjoyable discussions of books often expand to include films, theatre, ideas and living in Gozo.”

Malta Libraries staff based at Gozo’s Central Public Library in Victoria have also been very supportive in helping to publicise the club at the library.

Copies of all the 2024 book club choices have been added to library stock and can be borrowed free of charge. Some of titles can also be downloaded using the free online e-Books service offered through Malta Libraries.

Details of the meeting venue and dates are given on the group’s Facebook page as above and at the library
