Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, has explained the measures and initiatives being taken in order to attract “quality tourists to Gozo.”

The Minister was replying to a Parliamentary Question by the Opposition Spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg on the steps being taken to bring quality tourists to the island by the Tourism Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo.

Minister Camilleri said that the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development – in collaboration with various entities, including the Malta Tourism Authority – is “working to promote Gozo as a distinct destination to attract quality tourists.”

He explained that “it was for this reason that after 10 years it was felt that there was the need to re-brand VisitGozo. This is complemented with several campaigns that will be carried out this year, on a B2C (business-to-consumer) basis, through digital promotion.”

The Minister added that “in addition, B2B (business-to-business) work is currently underway to prepare campaigns in markets that make sense for Gozo, based on connectivity, knowledge, profiles and demographics to assimilate with the Gozitan tourism product.”

Minister Camilleri noted that the Directorate of Tourism will once again launch a number of schemes that will incentivise the private sector to invest more in its tourism product. These schemes are:

1. Supporting the Adventurous Tourism Industry in Gozo through Hiring Equipment Refund Scheme;

2. Supporting Marketing Initiatives for the Accommodation Sector in Gozo;

3. Restoring and Upgrading Venues with the Capacity to Host MICE Events in Gozo 2024;

4. Supporting Marketing Initiatives For Specific Niche Markets In Gozo 2024

The Minister concluded by saying that “apart from that, a collaboration is underway with an international organisation for Gozo to host a cultural, artistic and sporting activity that will bring over 600 people from France and Switzerland. These activities mitigate the seasonality of Gozo.”
