The annual campaign on safety at sea entitled – Being Reckless wrecks Lives – Be Safe at Sea – has been launched by Minister for Transport Chris Bonett together with the CEO of Transport Malta Dr Mark Mallia.
The campaign runs until September and includes various initiatives and events, as well as educational programmes that involve the public while providing a visibility on safety at sea.
It was explained that this campaign emphasises the importance of personal and social responsibility by every person who makes use of the seas around the islands; by swimmers, divers and boat owners, so that everyone can enjoy their time at sea safely.
The issues covered are:
Use of rescue jackets
Responsible use of quays
Notices to seafarers
Use of fairways
Safety disposal of sea generated waste
Music volume control
Speed and distances from coast
Swimming areas
Use of alpha flags
Vessel cleaning
Use of navigational aides
