The Diocese of Gozo is urging parishioners to celebrate and decorate their windows for the parish saints and not to participate in Halloween activities.

As Gozo Bishop Anton Grech encouraged in a letter he wrote to the Priests, “instead of decorating with skeletons, pumpkins, bats and other symbols of death, we encourage you to decorate the windows by illuminating the statues of our patron saints and of our parishes… We need to start from somewhere to change the mentality…”

The Bishop went on to say “the symbols of death make a big difference if we remember that currently many people are dying under the weapons of war in various countries in the world, among them in the place where Jesus was born, lived and died.”

The Bishop asked that this message should be encouraged by the priests, both at Mass and through their parish bulletins.
