BirdLife Malta said that Friday marked the end of the “so-called research” trapping season for the seven species of finches.
The trapping season for Song Thrushes remains open until the end of the year, while the trapping season for Golden Plovers continues until 10th January 2025.
As from today, Saturday, the 21st of December onwards, “any trapping sites set up with nets and surrounded by finches in cages are illegal,” the NGO said.
BirdLife Malta added that “if you witness this illegality, take note of the coordinates of the trapping site, capture a photo or video, and either call the police on 119 and ask for the Environment Protection Unit (EPU) or contact BirdLife Malta on 21347645.”
