“The Government’s work will continue to be focused on the quality of life of Gozitans, in particular to facilitate the lives of citizens through further investment,” said Prime Minister Robert Abela during a visit to Gozo on Friday.

The Prime Minister visited the Gozo General Hospital where he inaugurated new medical equipment and the Multi-Modal Hub project in Ta’ Xhajma, Xewkija.

At the Gozo General Hospital, the Prime Minister noted the investment made in a state-of-the-art CT Scanner which, he said, “is only the 12th type of this innovative device found in Europe.” It also uses artificial intelligence and increases the accuracy in diagnosis. This equipment joins other medical equipment in the field of radiography including MRI and a new ultrasound, Abela said.

During the visit it was also explained how in the coming months other services in the field of radiography will be introduced to strengthen healthcare in Gozo.

The Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela explained how with the addition of the new CT scanner, the Gozo General Hospital “now has a range of modern equipment that offers a service of excellence.”

The Prime Minister also visited the Park & ??Ride system project in Ta’ Xhajma where a service is being provided to Gozitans who cross the channel and are able to leave their vehicles at this location before being transported to the port of Mgarr.

“The site has been regenerated from land that was used for illegal waste disposal to a sustainable transport facility that has environmental objectives and helps in better managing traffic,” the PM said.

The 24,000 square metre project can accommodate 300 parking spaces and also includes charging points for electric vehicles.

Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri explained how the project, with a modern terminal and other facilities, is also served by a service of six electric buses that transport people using a Park & Ride system.
