“Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri still remains silent on questions regarding his close friendship with the architect who received the direct order for the Nadur road and thousands of euro in public funds,” said the Nationalist Party.

It highlighted that “a road project that the Auditor found to have cost €18.5 million instead of €8 million – meaning an overspend of €10.5 million of public funds – and that has led to a magisterial inquiry.”

At a press conference, Shadow Minister for Gozo Alex Borg and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Capital Projects Joe Giglio stressed that “the Minister for Gozo and Planning has remained completely silent. This is the same Minister whom Robert Abela staunchly defended in another scandal that resulted in the resignation of his colleague, Minister Clayton Bartolo.”

The Shadow Ministers noted that Minister Camilleri has yet to respond or address the many questions raised about his “close friendship with architect Godwin Agius, who received almost three-quarters of a million euro for his services as the Ministry for Gozo’s architect on the Nadur Road project:”

They added that “despite the Commissioner for Standards in Public Life finding Clint Camilleri to be just as guilty as Clayton Bartolo – if not more so due to his cover-up – regarding the ghost job given to Bartolo’s wife at the Ministry for Gozo, for which she was paid €70,000, Prime Minister Abela and Clint Camilleri have dismissed all calls for Camilleri’s resignation.”

Shadow Ministers Alex Borg and Joe Giglio stated that while the Government and its close associates “continue to enrich themselves, Gozitans are suffering due to disastrous road conditions, projects that fail to meet deadlines and budgets, and a deteriorating environment, clearly impacting their quality of life.”

They appealed to the public to attend and join the protest on Sunday 9th March in Valletta, organised by the PN, starting at 3pm.
