Spes Unica – The Only Hope – is a concert of sacred music being performed by the Leone Band this evening, Tuesday, the 15th of April, at the Gozo Cathedral Church, starting at 8pm.

The band will play Adagio Cantabile, from Sonata No. 8 in C minor (Pathétique) by Ludwig van Beethoven, Hymn to the Fallen, from Saving Private Ryan by John Williams, Agnus Dei by Georges Bizet and Nimrod (from Enigma Variations, Op. 36) by Edward Elgar.

The Leone Band will also perform a funerary composition by Joseph Sammut, the celebrated former conductor and composer on the first year of his demise, as well as a brand new composition by Colin Attard dedicated to a former Vice-President who served the Leone Band for more than 70 years, up to his passing at 98 years of age.

The Aurora Youth Choir will premiere a new sacred composition worked on the Prayer of the Jubilee of Hope penned by Pope Francis, set to music by choir director Matthew Sultana.

The programme starts at 8pm. While it is being presented in Maltese, the Leone Band said that English translations will be available at the door.
