A grant of €1,000 is available for those who buy a petrol-powered motorbike. Up to a further €1,000 is also available if the person chooses to scrap a car, the Government said.
Transport Malta, together with the Ministry for Transport, Infrastructure, and Public Works, has re-launched a financial incentive for anyone buying a new petrol-powered motorbike.
Anyone registering a new petrol motorbike from the 1st of April 2025, may be eligible for this grant – which can also be combined with the scrappage scheme if they are then getting rid of an old vehicle.
This initiative aims to encourage more people to switch from cars to motorbikes, especially for short trips and during busy traffic times.
The Authority said it believes that this is “another step towards reducing congestion and helping the environment.”
Applications for these grants are now open to all eligible vehicle owners and can be obtained from Transport Malta offices or online through the Transport Malta website.
Interested applicants may obtain the application form and full information by clicking here or,
Collect it in person from the Transport Malta offices located in Marsa or Lija
Request it directly from authorised dealers selling eligible petrol-powered motorbikes
Completed application forms must be submitted to the Transport Malta offices in Marsa or Lija from Monday to Friday from 7:30am till 1pm.
For further information about this scheme, interested individuals are encouraged to contact Transport Malta on the dedicated helpline: 8007 2309.
The Authority said that applicants are entitled to one grant each, and applicants who received a grant for a petrol motorbike between 2021 and 2024 are not eligible under a grant under this scheme.
