Two representatives of the Innovative Youth committee from Gozo have attended conference that took place in Vilnius, capital of Lithuania, for the Women’s Empowerment Project summary.

The event was attended by participating countries such as Turkey, Poland and Germany, among others, where the work done in each of the nations was summarised, as well as the evaluation results of the project itself.

The representatives, Ana Guerrero and Christina Darmanin, were able to learn more about the tangible results of the project: Empowering Women: Building Leadership and Advocacy Skills for Young Europeans, as well as the feedback needed for future events or collaborations to continue working to achieve these types of spaces in which knowledge is shared and the vision of participants is broadened, as well as breaking down cultural and language barriers.

The organisation remarked that “we can then conclude that everyone can contribute different perspectives from their position regarding empowerment, and then we leave you with this question: If you could change one thing about how women are treated around the world, what would it be?”

To which one of the participants, a local artist and woman empowerment advocate through artwork, who seeks to elevate, restore and inspire others, answered with a poem:

Scatter Light, Scatter Love

We are not here to merely pass the time but to grow like wildflowers reaching for the sun to give like rivers pouring into the thirsty earth.

Let your soul stretch wide with wonder

Let your heart break open with compassion

Grow in grace, grow in truth

And as you rise, scatter light, scatter love

One life so let it be full

Full of growth that humbles you and giving that outlives you

We rise not to escape the weight, but to remember we are wings.

Our words, our work, our walk a revolution soft as light, loud as truth.

So as you rise, scatter light and scatter love

Christina Darmanin

The Gozo based organisation Innovative Youth said that “these types of events not only serve specific purposes but also create networks for future purposes in support of common goals. The project was funded by Erasmus and EUPA.”
