Nature Trust (malta) condemns vandal attack on Pine treeNature Trust (Malta) joins the Mellieha Local Council and condemns the cowardly attack on a 300 year old Aleppo Pine Tree.

Unfortunately vandal attacks on trees in the Maltese Islands are becoming a common issue. During 2009 alone NTM got various reports of tree vandalism in various areas including carob trees at Wied Ghomor and Aleppo pine trees at Wied Ghollieqa. In the case of Wied Ghollieqa not only were trees set on fire but others also damaged.

The NGO appeals to the public to help save our natural heritage and anyone having information on this last vandal attack to report to the authorities or the Local Council.

NTM President Vincent Attard said that, “It is very ironic that vandals in this day and age still target our natural environment. NTM has been planting trees since 1990. In the last few years alone over 20,000 trees have been planted by the NGO. The aim is not only to restore our natural habitat but also to give our share to the climate change issue.”
