The Police said that they have intensified traffic checks during the night, when roads are quieter and some drivers take advantage by speeding excessively. Among the drivers stopped, three were caught at 159km/h, 156km/h and 148km/h in a 70km/h zone

In June and July, between 8pm and 4am, around 500 tickets were issued during traffic controls for excessive driving exceeding more than 15km/h over the limit. The Police added that it has also continued to intensify traffic controls during these times.

Other drivers were caught driving between 111 kilometres per hour and 140 kilometres per hour, in the same 70 kilometre per hour zone.

In an area where the speed is 80 kilometres per hour, a driver was caught driving at 124 kilometres per hour; while in an area of 60 kilometres per hour, drivers were caught driving between 103 kilometres per hour and 118 kilometres per hour.

Other drivers were caught driving between 159 kilometres per hour and 121 kilometres per hour in an area where the maximum speed is 50 kilometres per hour.

The Police said that it “remains committed to continue with regular traffic controls at all times of the day, with the aim of safeguarding the safety of all those who use our roads.”
