Starting with the next recruitment cycle, police training will be officially accredited by the University of Malta, in partnership with the Academy for Disciplined Forces.

UM said that the Pre-Tertiary Certificate in Policing, which is starting as of October 2025, will be partially taught by lecturers at the University’s Faculty for Social Wellbeing, and will help aspiring constables to understand, interpret, and apply relevant topics to policing; and gain a holistic appreciation for the principle of equality and non-discrimination, among other things.

The training, to be given across the span of 3 semesters on a full-time basis, combines classroom-based lectures with hands-on, practical instruction ranging from collecting witness statements to using specialised forensic equipment.

In a recent interview on local media, Inspector Valerie Mifsud explained that this accreditation is not limited to entry-level constables, but forms part of a larger planned training package as part of their process of promotion.
