A therapeutic swimming pool in the ARB Complex at Gharb, has been officially inaugurated by Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri together with the Gharb Local Council.
It was explained that this is a project that strengthens the quality of life, health and inclusivity within the Gozitan community.
The Minister said that despite its small size, this swimming pool has been designed with special attention to offer a therapeutic, rehabilitative and relaxation service to everyone who makes use of it, in a quiet and safe environment.
Camilleri stated that this complex was built through European Funds as well as local funds where “the therapeutic swimming pool has now also opened, which will be serving a social purpose, apart from the opportunity for the people of Gharb and also the surrounding area, this swimming pool is aimed at a number of services, services that include children and people with special needs, the elderly and all those who need therapy.”
Mayor of Gharb David Apap explained how “this swimming pool is complementary to what the Central Government has just carried out – an Olympic sized swimming pool – which has also become a reality. This heated therapeutic swimming pool is something that can be complementary for people to use.”
This professional and specialised facility is ideal for young children, the elderly, people with disabilities and those who need water therapy or rehabilitative support. The use of the swimming pool will be done in a controlled manner and with a limited number of people, between 15 and 18 people at a time, depending on the type of session. It was explained that this limit is essential to maintain a high level of security and for everyone who uses it to receive individual and professional attention.
The facility will offer various services including water therapy, water sessions for young children, relaxation therapy, services and programmes for people with disabilities, a safe environment for families who need specific support and therapeutic activities suitable for all ages.
This swimming pool is part of a wider vision for the ARB Complex: which continues to be strengthened as a centre of community services and spaces for social, educational and quality of life activities.
