The Gozo Tourism Association has expressed its solidarity with the catering establishments in Marsalforn that suffered damage and losses during Storm Harry.
“Storm Harry demonstrated, once more, the indispensable need of the Marsalforn breakwater in protecting the bay,” said the GTA.
The seas were high again on Thursday, breaking over the road and surging towards the businesses along the seafront.
The GTA argued that “these businesses are vital to our community and to tourism on Gozo, and must receive prompt assistance so they can resume operations and welcome visitors again.”
The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by calling on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to “prioritise decisions and implement measures that strengthen the Marsalforn front against future storms, so these establishments do not suffer further battering.”
Almost a year ago, Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri advised in Parliament that the responses to the consultation process for the Marsalforn Breakwater project were currently being analysed.
This followed the closure of the Environment Impact Assessment in September 2024, which had been carried out as requested by the Environment Resources Authority (ERA).
Camilleri also noted that “eventually, the comments will be addressed and responded to. These will be then be sent back to ERA for further comments from the same authority if necessary.”
