Following a series of thorough and constructive negotiations, the Malta Statistics Authority (MSA) and the Union Haddiema Maghqudin (UHM – Voice of the Workers) have signed a new collective agreement covering National Statistics Office (NSO) employees in managerial grades. The agreement will remain in force until 2028.

The NSO said that the agreement was signed by Dr Carl Camilleri, Chairman of the MSA, and Mr Etienne Caruana, Director General of the NSO, on behalf of management. Representing the Union were Ms Antoinette Aquilina and Mr Mario Sacco, while Ms Joslyn Magro Cuschieri signed on behalf of NSO employees.

The agreement was co-signed by Mr Paul Zahra, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry for Finance, and Mr Mario Grixti, Deputy Head of the Industrial Relations Unit (IRU).

The NSO explained that this new collective agreement builds on past challenges and achievements and places strong emphasis on empowering NSO management-level employees. It provides enhanced tools, improved opportunities for professional development, and a more supportive work environment.

It added that the agreement also aims to further strengthen professional standards while promoting a sustainable work-life balance.

“The conclusion of this agreement was made possible through the professionalism, dedication, and collaboration shown by the IRU within the Office of the Prime Minister and UHM – Voice of the Workers throughout the negotiation process.

“Special acknowledgement is also extended to the Ministry for Finance for its continued support of various initiatives undertaken by the NSO and the MSA. Lastly, appreciation goes to the staff representatives who consistently work towards securing positive outcomes in the interest of employees and the organisation,” concluded the NSO.
