Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri, has visited the reconstruction and restoration work of dry-stone walls currently underway on several key roads in Nadur, including Triq ta’ Xurdin, Triq ir-Ramla l-Hamra, Trejqet ta’ Xurdin, and Triq l-Inzul tal-Francizi.

The Minister said that these works aim to strengthen the rural infrastructure in Nadur, while continuing to ..protect and preserve Gozo’s agricultural and environmental heritage…

Minister Camilleri stated that “this project is being carried out with funding from European Funds under Measure 4.4 of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, with an investment of almost €900,000.”

He added that, ”through this investment, approximately 1.2 kilometres of walls will be restored or rebuilt. These are important projects, which may seem small, but which leave a very positive impact on the surrounding environment, as well as on the visual appeal for all those who visit these countryside locations around the island of Gozo.”

Dry-stone walls are an essential part of our agricultural identity, said Camilleri, and through this work it is being ensured that they remain preserved for future generations, while continuing to improve accessibility and safety in these areas.”
