During a political activity on Saturday evening in Nadur, Nationalist Party Leader Alex Borg said that a new Nationalist Government will give Gozo ”A Fresh Start through better connectivity, more jobs, a new hospital, stronger education and full respect for Gozitan identity.”

PN Leader Alex Borg, said that as a Gozitan he knows what it means to live in Gozo, to cross the channel, to lose time travelling, to be a student who has to leave home to study in Malta, or a business owner who starts every day at a disadvantage because every trip and every delay costs money.

He said that when he recently heard someone say that 13 years ago Gozo was a desert, he could not believe what he was hearing. He recalled how Nationalist Governments delivered major infrastructural projects in Gozo, including a hospital for Gozitans.

“The Labour Party promises Gozitans a new hospital in every manifesto, but it will be a Nationalist Government that delivers this hospital. The PN Leader said that a Government led by the Labour Party only remembers Gozo on the eve of an election,” said Borg.

Alex Borg said that the PN, including the Nationalist MEPs, are working with all their strength to secure European funds so that a Nationalist Government can invest in a new fleet between Malta and Gozo – with new vessels for passengers and for cargo. He also referred to the difference between a Nationalist Government and a Labour Government in Gozo when it comes to roads, saying that the Labour Government ”has left roads in the worst state they have ever been in.”

He pledged that art and culture in Gozo will be given A Fresh Start through a €9 million fund, saying that a Nationalist Government does not only want to support this sector, but wants to see it make the next leap forward.

Alex Borg spoke about a ”new model of work for Gozo, with more jobs in Gozo for Gozitans, more public services operating from Gozo, more private companies opening in Gozo, and new sectors.” He also referred to the investment a Nationalist Government wants to make in education, by strengthening schools for all children, including neurodivergent children.

He appealed to all Maltese and Gozitans, including those who are still uncertain, those who have drifted away from the PN, genuine Labour supporters who are disappointed, and those who are considering not voting, to make their choice on Saturday in favour of Malta and Gozo, in favour of their families and in favour of the future.

During the same political activity, the Nationalist Mayor of Nadur, Edward Said, spoke about the challenges facing Gozitan towns and villages, particularly in terms of infrastructure, the work of Local Councils and connectivity between Malta and Gozo. He said that ”Local Councils today are still functioning only thanks to the work of councillors, because the Labour Government has abandoned them to fend for themselves.”

He concluded his message by appealing to everyone to give their support to the Nationalist Party on Saturday, ”so that it can do for our country what a tired and visionless Labour Party cannot do – give it A Fresh Start.”

Maureen Xerri, an entrepreneur, began by saying that Alex Borg has opened the doors of the Party to everyone. She spoke about several proposals that the PN has for parents, young people, education and culture. She said that she wants to see her children grow up in a healthy country and said that only a new Nationalist Government can truly give Gozo and Malta A Fresh Start.

As a mother, she appealed for everyone to place their trust in Alex Borg and the Nationalist Party so that over the next five years we will have a Government that places people at the centre.

The Deputy Mayor of Nadur, Kevin Curmi, spoke as a young Gozitan. He said that although many say that young people have lost interest in trust, if one looks at the many young Gozitan councillors in Gozo, one understands that this is not true. He said that today ”we are living in a reality where people are fed up of negative politics and want politics that serves people seriously.”

He said that today we have Alex Borg, who is giving fresh hope that this country can move forward and that we can have a better Gozo than we have today. Kevin Curmi said that ”some claim that Gozo today is first class, but one look around the island shows how much Gozo has been left to fend for itself by a Government led by the Labour Party. He stressed that if we want change on Saturday, we must vote for the PN.

Councillor Eucharist Camilleri recalled the many services that the elderly have been benefiting from for years after they were introduced by a Nationalist Government – including POYC, the home nursing service, Meals on Wheels and Telecare. ”By contrast, in 13 years we have had a Government that forgot the health of the elderly, among other things by leaving them with closed health centres.”

He said that the Nationalist Party is presenting the elderly with strong proposals – such as a doctor of their choice for free and medicines delivered to their homes. He praised the PN’s proposals for culture, including the €9 million fund for theatres and cultural centres in Gozo. He said that these are measures that show respect towards the elderly and strengthen the cultural identity that makes Gozo unique.

The activity in Nadur formed part of the Nationalist Party’s electoral campaign, A Fresh Start, which continues this morning at 11am with an activity in Fgura and at 5pm with a Mass Meeting in Sliema.
