The Nationalist Party Alex Borg on a visit to Gozo on Saturday said the the Party wants to create the conditions for more Gozitan businesses to invest, grow and bring their products to the national market, while creating quality jobs in Gozo itself.

Alex Borg made the statement during a visit to the Gelati Granola factory at the Xewkija Industrial Estate, where he met the company’s management and employees and observed the production process.

Alex Borg said that Gelati Granola’s story is an inspiring one: that of a Gozitan enterprise which started on a small scale, grew over the years and continued to be run by the same family from one generation to the next. Today, its products can be found across Malta and Gozo.

“It is very encouraging to see a company like this continue to grow and expand,” Alex Borg said, adding that its success demonstrates the potential, skill and determination of Gozitan entrepreneurs and workers.

During the visit, Alex Borg heard directly about the company’s experience, the challenges it faces and its plans for the future. He noted that Gozitan businesses often bear additional costs and face greater difficulties because of double insularity, including in freight transport, connectivity, energy costs and recruiting the workers they need.

He stressed that ”Gozo needs a diversified and resilient economy, including a stronger manufacturing sector and private investment that generates opportunities throughout the year. Support for Gozitan businesses must be easily accessible and tailored to Gozo’s specific realities.”

”The aim must be to enable more entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into reality and give young Gozitans genuine opportunities to build a career and raise a family in Gozo, without having to leave the island because of a lack of prospects,” said Borg.

It was explained that this visit forms part of the Nationalist Party’s work to listen directly to Gozitan businesses and develop an economic policy based on their specific needs and experiences.

The PN Leader was accompanied by PN MPs Frank Anthony Tabone, Norma Camilleri and Beppe Galea.
