The stories covered in this weeks issue are:

1 .Government property devolved to the Victoria Gozo Local Council.

2. A delegation from the Scout Association of Malta paid a courtesy visit to Bishop Mgr. Mario Grech at the Diocesan Curia, in Victoria. The Delegation was made up of the Chief Scout, Kenneth DeMartino, Chief Commissioner, Leslie Bonnici, Honorary General Secretary, Robert Gonzi, the Arch. Bishop’s Delegate to the Scout Association, Fr. Anton Briffa OFM Cap, and the District Commissioner for Gozo, Lorrie Saliba.

The Bishop warmly welcomed the delegation. Following initial introductions and reciprocal appreciation for the continuous mutual support, the party proceeded to a friendly informal discussion. Sitting around a table in the Bishop’s office, the discussion evolved around the importance of the aims, principles and non formal education aspect of scouting in our society and the challenges faced by Maltese youths. The Scout Association delegates highlighted the strong traditional principles which the Scout Association of Malta still enjoys whilst being a movement on the move constantly adapting to the social changes in order to attract members and to give them a positive, fun and educational experience within a multicultural membership base. At the end of the visit the Bishop was presented with a hand crafted token.

3. Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Local Councils, Chris Said chaired the ceremony of the award Gieh Kercem held recently in Orvieto Square.

Gieh Kercem this year was awarded to George Mizzi, the Parish Church Sexton. George has his duties as sexton for the past 40 years. Mizzi was presented with a xhield and a memento by Mayor Joe Grima.
