The San Lawrenz church façade is now concealed behind scaffolding that has been assembled for the work that is being carried out, both on the inside and outside of the façade, as well as on the belfries.

The Company undertaking the restoration of the façade are progressing well with the delicate and intricate work. Italian experts are currently in the process of cleaning the stone and are also replacing those that are beyond repair. An intensive study of the quality of the stone being used guarantees the best possible results.

Work is also being carried out in connection with the lightning protection system, the aim of which is to ensure that for safety purposes the new one will be a lot taller than the one that is currently in place on the church roof.

This project, which is being co financed by the European Union also includes the restoration of the paintings of Guzeppi Cali’ in the San Lawrenz Church and the restoration of the Church organ. Work is already underway on the restoration of the paintings of St Michael and that of the Crucifix. The work on the restoration of the organ, which will be carried out in England, will commence in the near future.

This project forms part of the San Lawrenz Local Council’s Locality regeneration programme and the Council said that the work on the church appears to be going as well as expected.
