A specialist team of French civilian engineers was earlier this week brought over to Malta through the offices of the French Government with a view to dispose of the armaments on board the Libyan Air Force Mirage F1 aircraft currently parked at the Malta International Airport.

The French company Dassault Aviation, is the manufacturer of the Mirage F1 fighter aircraft. This was the second phase of an operation that commenced after the Libyan Air Force fighter aircraft landed in Malta. During the first phase, the aircraft were inspected and rendered safe by a specialist team of Royal Air Force personnel purposely sent over to Malta from the UK.

The last phase of this same operation involves the movement of the same aircraft to another location. This is being done to facilitate operations within the Malta International Airport.

All operations were supported by members of the Armed Forces of Malta.
