Victoria Mayor, Samuel Azzopardi, announced during the councils annual general meeting that the Council is addressing Victoria’s traffic issues.
All heavy vehicles are being prohibited from passing along the main road through the centre of Victoria, this heavy traffic has now been rerouted via the Maingate Street – George Borg Olivier Street – St Francis Square – Varinga Street route.
Despite protests from the construction lobby the Council said it has stood firmly by its position and enforced what it believes is appropriate.
Although it inherited major financial problems, the Council said it has managed to provide additional services and is embarking upon projects such as the reconstruction of three roads: Wied is-Seqer Street; Saghtar Street and Ganni Vassallo Street.
In addition the Council said it is restoring four important historical niches in the historic quarters of Rabat and has submitted a MEPA application to completely refurbish the Victoria playing field.
