The Labour MP, Justyne Caruana, has this evening tabled a motion in Parliament to debate the situation of the Gozo Court.
The motion that has been tabled states that those involved in the judiciary process in Gozo had always felt that the court’s way of operation needed changing.
Due to the Gozo Court’s limitations, certain procedures could not be assigned to it, which was to the detriment of Gozitans.
The Labour MP proposes that the committee which is in charge of the codification of laws should carry out an exercise to evaluate the Code of Organisation and Civil Procedure, which would then follow with the preparation of a bill with the correct amendments for debate in the House.
The Gozo Court could then be given the dignity of a Superior Court with a sitting judge for Gozo.
