The Government has announced in a statement this afternoon that “after studying the ORNIS recommendation on a derogation for trapping in autumn, it is satisfied that at this stage, it can apply a derogation for trapping of the Song Thrush (mlievez).” The statement continued that as regards to the recommendation for a derogation for trapping of the Golden Plover (pluviera), “it considers that further work is required to ensure that the application of this derogation would be in accordance with the provisions of the Birds Directive.”
The Government said that it has “therefore decided to apply a derogation to the trapping of the Song Thrush between tomorrow, 1 November and 10 January 2012.”
In conclusion the statement said that “the Government wishes to remind everyone of the conditions listed in the Carnet de Chasse, particularly that the mesh size of nets can not be more than 30 x 30 mm. Specific instructions have also been issued to the Police to ensure that all provisions of the law are observed.”

Shame on the government for allowing the trapping of these lovely song-birds – or any birds for that matter. How can they justify condeming such creatures to a life in a dark garage confined to a tiny cage! Truly disgusting, especially for a so-called Christian country……
