ETC has teamed up with the Malta-EU Steering Action Committee (MEUSAC) to inform the general public about EU-funded projects and initiatives that are being managed by the Corporation.
One of the principal roles of MEUSAC is to inform the public about EU funds and how they can benefit from them. This is also an important role of organisations benefitting from EU funds. ETC Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Farrugia said that, “We do not only have the responsibility to apply for EU funds to develop new programmes and initiatives, but also the obligation to inform our clients and the general public on how we are spending this money and how they can benefit from them.”
ETC was one of the first public entities which applied and received EU funds under the European Social Fund (ESF) soon after Malta joined the European Union in 2004. In the 2004 – 2006 funding period, it has utilized more than €6.6M in funds, while in the current 2007 – 2013 funding period, it is managing projects worth over €26.7M. It is a good example of how an organisation can exploit these funding opportunities for the benefit and development of society.
The first of these public information meetings was held last week when a group of over 50 students from the Higher Secondary Sixth Form at Naxxar toured the ETC training complex, which was extended and modernised through EU funds. The students were given information about two programmes being funded by ESF – the Employability Programme, through which ETC provides free training courses to those willing to upgrade their skills and the Youth Employment Programme which is a specialised programme for young people who are looking for a job.
More meetings to different groups in society will be organised in the near future.
