The Operations Centre of the Armed Forces of Malta was last night informed of a possible rubber dinghy with persons onboard some 12 NM south of Filfla. The call was received at 9.20pm and the Operations Centre immediately dispatched the P32 Gozo Based patrol vessel to the area to monitor the situation.

The AFM said that the third country nationals refused to board the AFM’s Maritime Patrol (P32) Vessel and was being escorted to Hay Wharf Base.

The AFM said that the “irregular migrants claimed to have left from Tunisian shores and are also claiming to be of Somali nationality.”

The group is made up of 15 men, 3 females and 2 children.
