The Gozo Tourism Association has said that it welcomes the European Commission’s announcement, that it has approved Air Malta’s restructuring plan and state aid. The European Commission’s much awaited decision is good news both for the National Airline and Malta, as well as for the tourist industry, the Association added.

The Association said that, “the national Airline is undoubtedly the lifeline of our tourism industry, given that accessibility plays a fundamental role for its success. The restructuring plan of Air Malta means the survival of jobs and the protection of huge investment, both in Malta and in Gozo. Thus Air Malta plays a vital role in the tourism industry on the Maltese islands.”

“In the present economic scenario, reduction in accessibility and seat capacity will bear consequences that will in turn cascade on the sister island and badly affect the sensitive and fragile tourism industry on Gozo.”
