In June the twelve-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.7 per cent, whereas the annual rate of inflation stood at 4.4 per cent.

In June, the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went up by 1.1 per cent over the previous month. This primarily reflected a seasonal increase of 4.3 per cent in the Restaurants and Hotels Index due to a rise in the price of accommodation services.

Higher-priced furniture items caused the Furniture, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance of the House Index to go up by 1.6 per cent. The Recreation and Culture Index registered an increase of 1.2 per cent, mainly as a result of costlier package tours. Higher airfares were the main reason behind an increase of 0.8 per cent in the Transport Index.

The Health Index went up by 0.4 per cent mainly due to higher fees for medical services. The Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Index edged up by 0.2 per cent due to an increase in the price of wine. A similar increase was recorded in the Clothing and Footwear Index, resulting from higher-priced garments.

Seasonally cheaper fruits and vegetables were the main cause behind a decline of 0.9 per cent in the Food and Beverages Index. The Miscellaneous Goods and Services Index registered a decrease of 0.2 per cent mainly due to a downward shift in the price of personal care appliances.
