Following reports in the local media revealing the alleged shooting down of a Peregrine Falcon, at Ta’ Cenc cliffs in Gozo, which form part of one of the rare examples of breeding pairs in our islands, Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party said that it strongly condemns such an act.
“Our natural heritage is there to be enjoyed by all and protected for future generations yet to come. Apart better enforcement, AD calls upon all stakeholders to work in favour of curbing such abuses. The general public be it birdwatchers or hunters alike are being robbed of their right to enjoy such attractions hence the need for anyone who can help in the investigations to step forward. It is also the hunters’ responsibility to disassociate themselves from poachers. AD calls for all hunters’ societies to better educate their members whilst expelling any of its members caught hunting illegally,” said Simon Galea spokesperson on Animal Welfare & Agriculture.
The FKNK hunters federaation had also condemned the alleged shooting of the Peregrine Falcon off Gozo.
