The Gozo General Hospital sterlisation equipment is not functioning correctly and has been in that condition for some time, the Labour Party health spokesperson Marie Louise Coleiro said today.

In a statement she said that that the equipment, which was purchased in 1999, is in this condition due to a lack of maintenance over the past two years.

Coleiro said that Gozitans are being treated like third class citizens by the Government, with instruments having to be sent to Malta to be sterilised, resulting in a possible shortage of instruments for emergency operations.

The statement said that a Labour Government would consider health as a priority, with the needs of patients considered above anything else.
