Nature Trust (Malta) said in a statment today that it has submitted its proposals to the political parties in view of the 9th of March 2013 election.

The environmental NGO has sent an electoral memorandum to each of the three political parties on various environmental issues which it hopes will be taken up by the parties in their electoral programmes for implementation.

The NGO said in the statement that the environment has for a long time been given too much of a low profile and while certain areas such as waste and education have been given some attention, other areas such as MEPA, Law enforcement, Marine protected areas, Natural 2000 sites, biodiversity and still lacking behind.

The Memo covers the areas on MEPA which the NGO stresses have to change in the way they operate, as well as law enforcement which today is still non existing, Natura 2000 sites and marine protected areas, Sustainable fisheries, Pollution, Transport, Waste Incentives, Environmental Education, Civil Society and national budgets and taxes
