Swimmer suffers spinal injury after jumping into Blue Lagoon

This morning, a 17-year-old Maltese swimmer, was assisted by lifeguards of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps after jumping into the Blue Lagoon in Comino.

He was treated for spinal injury and transported with Lifesaver 1 to Mgarr Harbour. From there he was transported to the Gozo General Hospital by ambulance.

The lifeguarding service is made possible with financial support from the Malta Tourist Authority and Gaia Foundation. Support is also being provided by the Ministry for Gozo, Transport Malta, Police, Armed Forces of Malta, Police and the Civil Protection Department.

      Whilst I obviously hope he is not too seriously injured he should be charged for the expense he has caused. If he can’t afford to pay the debt should be passed onto his parents. The message has to be go through to these kids that their stupidity is no excuse for costing the country money and in some cases putting the lives of others at risk saving them.
