Car scrappage scheme re-opened by Transport MaltaFollowing the overwhelming success of the scrappage scheme launched in January, Transport Malta has announced that this scheme has now been allocated another €200,000 by the Government.

The Authority said that it is now receiving applications for the Grant Scheme on the Purchase of New Environment-Friendly Vehicles and will be processed on a first come first served basis. “The initiative is aimed to encourage people to dispose of their old vehicles and to invest in new cars with lower emissions.”

A total of 395 vehicles have already benefited from the original €300,000 grant allocated by the Government for this scheme, th Authority said.

Vehicle owners who applied for the scheme were entitled to a payment of between €500 and €900 upon the purchase of a new motor vehicle M1 that qualifies for the grant scheme whilst at the same time de-registering a vehicle in the same category.

Applications for such scheme are available from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit, Hornsworks Ditch, Floriana or downloaded from www.transport.gov.mt.
