Seasonal flu vaccine available from Health Centres in NovemberThe Government has said that the seasonal influenza vaccine will be offered from all Government Health Centres between Monday, the 3rd of November and Saturday, the 22nd of November, both days included.

Seasonal influenza can affect people of all age groups from infancy to old age.

The vaccine against seasonal influenza helps to prevent this severe illness which can bring about medical complications leading to increased hospital admissions. Influenza is usually more common during the colder months but this is the ideal time to get vaccinated in order to help the body build up immunity against the influenza virus.

Most Local Councils, as well as a number of family doctors are also participating in the vaccination campaign, the Government said.

It is important that the identity cards are presented, or the immunisation record book in the case of children.

The following groups of persons can receive the vaccine free of charge:

All persons aged 55-years and over,

Children between 6 months and 59 months of age

Persons of any age suffering from chronic diseases of the lungs, heart, liver, kidney; diabetes mellitus, and any immunodeficiency conditions, including HIV and AIDS.

In the case of persons below 55-years of age, evidence of one of the above conditions needs to be confirmed by presenting a Schedule V Control Card or a recent medical certificate.

Those persons over 55-years of age who have already registered with their Local Council or their family doctor should wait for notice from the respective Council or doctor and are not to go to the Health Centre.

Carers of persons who are bed bound and unable to leave their home are to call at MMDNA office on 21387526 from Monday to Saturday: 11.00am – 12.30pm and 2.00pm – 3.30pm so that vaccination can be given at home by MMDNA nurses.

Vaccination from Health Centres will take place Monday to Saturday 10.00am – noon. There will be afternoon sessions at Mosta, Floriana and Paola Health Centres from 1.00pm – 7.00pm Monday to Saturday.
