Today is Jum Ghawdex, the day where we all, especially Gozitans, commemorate the 216th anniversary of the uprising of Gozitans, against the French led by Archpriest Saver Cassar in 1798.

The Gozo University Group celebrated this day by laying flowers on the monument dedicated to Dun Saver Cassar, in Independent Square in Victoria.

GUG said that it believes that this day is valuable both as a commemoration of important past events, as well as also serving to honour people and organisations who contribute to Gozo presently, through the Gieh Ghawdex Award.
