During an inspectors’ promotion ceremony held at the Police National Head Quarters, twenty-nine, three of whom being new members of the Police Force, were appointed as new Police Inspectors.
The Minister for Home Affairs and National Security Carmelo Abela, outlined the importance of a disciplined Police Force equipped with the best Human Resources, both in terms of quality and quantity.
He noted that this particular group of newly appointed inspectors was one of the best police recruitment in terms of academic abilities which varies from Diplomas, Bachelor Degrees, and Masters Degrees.
“These diverse disciplines include qualifications in psychology, criminology, science, computing, management, marketing and Doctorate of Laws. This achievement shows that the Police Force is succeeding in attracting high quality individuals whilst motivating its members to continue enhancing their academic skills.”
Minister Abela stressed the need for continuous training. “Education should be a priority for all members of the police force,” Abela said, whilst highlighting the Government’s vision for a new police college with accredited certificates as a replacement of the current police academy.
He claimed that in the coming months the focus would remain the need for a reorganisation of the structure of the Police Force which will include the appointment of a new chief executive officer, reporting directly to the Police Commissioner.
In his regard, Police Commissioner Michael Cassar explained the opportunities that these inspectors will be provided with, to merge their academic aspect with practical field work.
Minister Abela and Mr Cassar encouraged these newly appointed inspectors to be dedicated towards the intensive training provided by the Criminology Department at the University of Malta for the coming year.
This course consists in four principles being the study of criminology, investigation, policing and the law. During the Inspector’s appointment presentation, the Minister and the Police Commissioner called on these inspectors to continue serving and fulfilling their duties with enthusiasm whilst always being loyal towards the service and the nation.
They congratulated these inspectors for their achievements and encouraged them to continue striving to enhance their career within the Police Force.
