The 1771 helpline for dementia sufferers and their relatives, has been launched by the Government today.
The national helpline, will be operated by 4 trained nurses, on a 24-hour basis, 7 days a week, and aims to provide patients and relatives with the necessary support explained, Aaron Farrugia, who is acting charge nurse for the Dementia Centre at Saint Vincent de Paul Residence.
The 1771 helpline was launched by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing Dr Justyne Caruana, who said that although the helpline will operate from SVPR, the service will be open to everyone.
Dr Caruana said that interviews are underway in order to set up dementia intervention teams, which would work within the community offering advice etc.
