Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja recently paid a return visit to the Astra Theatre, in Victoria, Gozo to do an interview with a German television crew.

Joseph Calleja was welcomed by Prof. Joseph Vella, musical director of the La Stella Band and musical and artistic director of Festival Mediterranea, Mr Paul M Cassar, President of the La Stella Philharmonic Society, together with members who are actively involved in opera productions at the theatre.

During his visit Calleja recalled that it was at the Astra Theatre with Prof. Vella, that he began his career as a tenor in the opera. His first performance was in fact in the 1997 production at the Astra of the opera Macbeth by Verdi. He then returned to the theatre in 2005 for La Boheme and again in 2007 for another performance of Macbeth.
