This year, Malta celebrates a very important milestone in its rich cinematic history – 90 years of Film. Despite its diminutive size, Malta’s natural landscape, architectural heritage and purpose-built film facilities allowed it to suit the needs of a range of foreign and local productions, making Malta known as an incredibly versatile location and earning a reputation for being ‘A Hollywood in the Mediterranean,’ the Malta Film Commission said.

In March 1925, British Producer and Director H. Bruce Woolfe came to film scenes for the first ever feature film shot in Malta called ‘Sons of the sea’. 90 years on, the country’s film industry has gone from strength to strength, attracting large scale productions such as Midnight Express, Gladiator, Troy, World War Z, By The Sea and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.

To commemorate Malta’s achievements in the film industry, the Malta Film Commission will be organising a concert on Friday, the 25th and Saturday, the 26th of September, at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. The audience will have the opportunity to hear, feel and be able to experience the soundtracks of some of the greatest films shot in Malta.

Under the artistic direction of world-renowned conductor Brian Schembri, the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing some of the greatest soundtracks from movies that chose to film in Malta, including titles such as Midnight Express, Troy, Cutthroat Island, Game of Thrones, Count of Monte Cristo and Gladiator.

The ’90 years of Film’ concert is being brought to you with the support of the Ministry for Tourism and Film, Malta Tourism Authority, Bank of Valletta, Mediterranean Insurance Brokers, Godwin’s Film Facilities and KRS Releasing.
