The Gozo Confederation for Agriculture and Fisheries, has said that all aspects of accessibility to Gozo should be explored not just a tunnel.

The Confederation said in a statement that it is has been following with interest the ongoing discussions in respect of the possibility of a sub-sea tunnel to connect Gozo and Malta.

"The Confederations believes that accessibility to Gozo is fundamental to the development of the island region. However, it strong believes that such accessibility should not be limited to just the exploration of a sub-sea tunnel, but should also include a wider study on the introduction of a fast ferry service and the continuation of studies on the impact of the airstrip, which effectively means that Gozo is connecting directly with other destinations.

The Gozo Confederation for Agriculture and Fisheries has also urged the Ministry for Gozo to establish a task group comprising all the representatives of the Civil Society om Gozo to discuss those issues that are of great interest for Gozitans.

The Confederation concluded, "such a task group should discuss not only the financial aspect but also the socio-cultural, legal and environmental aspects related to each of these proposals leading to greater accessibility to Gozo."
