LGBTI+ Gozo AGM emphasises the need for awareness in GozoLGBTI+ Gozo has held its first Annual General Meeting. It said that for an organisation that is just starting "the turnout was quite good," the candidates present emphasised the need for more awareness in Gozo, for more education on the topic, especially among teachers and parents.

The NGO said that more discussions should be held with the Gozo Ministry about pressing issues such as the GU Clinic and the Gender Neutral bathroom. The NGO encouraged the Gozo Ministry "to follow in the footsteps of the University."

LGBTI+ Gozo is the first NGO formed in Gozo to "protect the rights of sexual minorities and create a safe space for those belonging in the LGBT community."

It also opened a call for anyone who is interested in collaborating with the organisation in publishing a policy paper regarding all minorities in Gozo namely ethnic, religious, people with disability and sexual minorities.

Anyone who is interested can contact them on their email lgbtigozo@gmail.com.

Earlier this month LGBTI+ Gozo, along with Malta Gay Rights Movement and Drachma Parents, held an event at the Gozo Ministry called "Uliedna Rigal" the same name of the book published by Drachma Parents that encompasses various stories from parents of people from the LGBT community.

The organisation said that this event highlighted how important "the coming out process" is to the parents and that they need more support in Gozo as nothing is yet offered.

An agreement was reached between members of LGBTI+ Gozo to meet with Drachma Parents "for brainstorming" on future projects.

LGBTI+ Gozo has also started an online campaign called "Queer Terminology" where it said, "various terms used in the queer community are explained to the public." These can be accessed on the website here.
