Malta and the European Union: What future? - ConferenceWhere is the EU heading to? What are its main weaknesses and strengths? How will the EU be in the future – will it collapse or will it be more powerful? How will Brexit and the arrival of Trump affect it? Will it overcome the economic uncertainties that prevailed these last few years?

These questions and other crucial ones are the main theme of a Conference titled Malta and the European Union: What future? Organised by the Office of the Alfred Sant, Head of the Maltese Labour Delegation at the European Parliament with the collaboration of S&D.

The Conference will be held on the eve of Malta's EU Presidency on Friday, the 25th of November at 6.30pm at Qawra Palace Hotel, Qawra.

Dr Sant will address the latest crises facing the EU, including the financial turbulence of 2008 and the economic depression that succeeded it; the economic and financial crises which are undergoing in eurozone countries; austerity measures and their impact of social justice; the EU's relations with Russia; terrorism and its after effects, difficulties in the management of the Schengen area; immigration; the complications with Turkey; Brexit and the aftermath of the US presidential elections. Antoinette Falzon will be presenting the evening.

The public is being invited to participate in the conference in order to better understand the challenges of the Maltese Presidency at the European Council.
