Friday marked the beginning of another term for student organisation Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM).

Gabriel Micallef, newly elected President, will be leading a team, consisting of a mix of experienced people and also new blood. Gabriel Camilleri, will occupy the role of Vice-President, making sure the helm of the organisation has a direct reach at both University and Junior College.

Neil Smart Costantino has been re-appointed as Secretary General and will be assisted by Luigi Fenech. Gianluca Sciberras will be occupying the role of Financial Officer for the second consecutive term. Jean Claude Vella will be taking over from Andreas Anastasi for this year and will be holding the position of Public Relations Officer, whilst new member Keith Grima is attaining the Human Resources position. An organisation’s administration, which boasts experience and consistency.

Matthew Gellel will be taking over from Luigi Fenech and will be occupying the role of Events Co-Coordinator whilst Sara Xiberras, will be the Commissioner for Education and Social Policy. Beppe Galea, the first ever Gozitan to be part of SDM’s main branch will be this term’s International Officer for the second consecutive time whilst leaving the role of Gozo Co-Coordinator in the hands of newcomer and fellow Gozitan, Martina Dimech.

William Farrugia, a new face, will be the University Co-Coordinator for the organisation. Jake Scerri, former KSJC President, will be taking up the role of Junior College Co-Coordinator again and is eager to make his mark, assisted by Claire Muscat, sister of President Emeritus Luke Muscat.

For the second time in a row, the MCAST Co-Coordinator within the Main Branch, will be an MCAST Student, David Aguis.

President Gabriel Micallef this year has added a few roles in order to give the organisation a new dynamic. Andrew Camilleri will be taking up the role of Logistics officer, whist Natalia will be Commissioner for Education for the upcoming year. Experienced member Kurt Grech will also be taking up a new role as External officer.

SDM gave thanks to outgoing members Ian Zahra, Andreas Anastasi, Matthew John Dougall, Jeannette Gillard and Andrea Bonavia for their years of service and devotion towards this organisation. “It is thanks to members like these that the organisation continues to thrive and succeed.”

SDM said that “the new team is ready for a year of hard work and sacrifice. The main focus of the organization has always been and will continue to remain the best interest of students across Malta and Gozo. With a turnover of new faces, SDM will be closing a chapter and starting a fresh page. With many new ideas and initiates on the table, this year will surely bring success to this ever growing organisation.”
