Last week the Mayor of San Lawrenz, Noel Formosa, visited Brussels as part of his work as a representative of the Maltese Local Councils in the Committee of the Regions. On an initiative of the European Popular Group, of which Mayor Formosa is the Vice President.

Francine Caruana, a European Studies student from San Lawrenz was invited to attend. Francine, together with other European students, was chosen to study the work done by various Mayors and Regional Presidents in the Committee of the Regions.

Francine formed part of a group of 30 students, and was the only Maltese participant. Their programme was very instensive, and it gave the students the opportunity to not only view the interesting work of the Committtee of the Regions but also to meet with European politicians.

The President of the European Popular Group, Mr Isadoro Gotardo, welcomed the group and urged them to continue to show an interest in the work of the Committee of the Regions and Europe. Mayor Formosa in turn thanked the President of the European Popular Group and also the secretariat for the initiative of the students visit.
