Alternattiva Demokratika is urging the Maltese government to ensure that all EU funding available is absorbed.

Arnold Cassola, Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson, said “Whilst it is true that Malta ranks amongst the highest amongst the 12 accession countries in the absorption of EU funding, it is also true that we are sometimes playing with fire and risking losing precious funds because of missed deadlines, such as in the case of the building of sewage treatment plants.”

“The administrative machine must be faster and more efficient,” concluded Arnold Cassola.

Simon Galea, Alternattiva Demokratika Spokesperson on Agriculture and Animal Welfare added. “Another case in point concerns Maltese farmers, who are concerned they could lose EU funding because they still have not obtained the necessary permits from MEPA with regards to pending farm or field improvement applications.”

Simon Galea concluded, “Since the closing date for applications for EU funding for farmers is the 12th of January, and these must include the development permit, the authorities cannot remain complacent and must ensure that all these sources of income for the Maltese and Gozitan farmers be efficiently tapped.”
