The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, represented Malta and Gozo at a two-day UFM international and multi-stakeholder conference on the Blue Economy, held this week in Naples.

Speaking during the conference, which was attended by 300 delegates, Dr Caruana told those present that, “Malta thrived as a maritime nation and therefore we have the required credentials to speak about and push the Blue Economy Agenda.”

The Minister for Gozo conveyed what she said was, “our strong commitment to the Blue Growth Agenda to create jobs, to have safer and secure seas and a cleaner Mediterranean Basin.”

In 2015, the Ministers and other Heads of Delegations of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) adopted the UfM Ministerial Declaration on Blue Economy. To ensure appropriate governance structures, the UfM Forum on Blue Economy was established as a “…framework of dialogue on sustainable blue economy…” composed of various elements, among which the UfM Regional Stakeholder Conference on Blue Economy.
