The set-designs by opera director Enrico Castiglione for Bellini’s opera Norma, are inspired by the Ggantija Temples, Gozo’s prime heritage site.
Gaulitana said that this will be a unique production, transporting the Druids-era love-story to the Neolithic era. “Underlying how our common heritage, operatic traditions and culture are still relevant to contemporary society.”
Norma – with English surtitles – is part of Gaulitana’s OPERA+ Weekend, with the performance on the 28th of April, at the Aurora Opera House, Victoria.
The star-studded cast will feature Amarilli Nizza, Stefan Pop and Anna Maria Chiuri.
Enrico Castiglione will direct the production with Sonia Cammarata as costume-designer. The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and Gaulitanus Choir will be directed by Colin Attard.
