Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana welcomed the invitation of the Malta Cadet Corps (formerly ERRC Cadets) to install defibrillators in more Gozitan localities.

The Minister said that after the defibrillator was installed at the Citadel and the donation by the Gozo CCU Foundation of a defibrillator to each of the 15 schools in Gozo, it is important to raise awareness about the use of this device that can help save lives.

Dr Caruana commended the Malta Cadet Corps for the initiative to install a device in St George’s Square,Victoria, as well as carry out training on the use of the defibrillator.

She added that although Gozo is a small island, a few minutes can make all the difference in our lives, so it is an important to have these AEDs in locations in case of emergency.

Minister Caruana thanked the ERRC for this project and said that “the Ministry for Gozo is always available to support such initiatives, because at the end of the day we are going to save more lives.”

The Cadet’s project – Shock – is intended to provide first aid coverage at various places in Gozo and provide training and awareness to the general public.

They explained that the use of public access automated external defibrillators (AEDs) has shown improvement in survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
